Coroner: Deer caused fatal crash in West Pennsboro

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – An 84-year-old Newburg woman died after a deer crashed through her vehicle’s windshield in West Pennsboro Township, according to the Cumberland County coroner.
Virginia Chain was driving on Ritner Highway when an oncoming SUV struck the deer near McCallister Church Road just before 11:30 a.m., Coroner Charley Hall said.
The deer was thrown through Chain’s windshield. It struck Chain and was then thrown through the rear window of her vehicle, Hall said.
Chain was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma. No passengers were in her car.
The driver and a passenger in the SUV were not injured.
The deer was killed.
