BALTIMORE CITY THIS AFTERNOON
-WHAT HAPPENED?

2 people including that on-duty Baltimore City Firefighter were shot and injured “for no apparent reason” off Liberty Heights Avenue this afternoon, according to Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.

Davis said the firefighter, who was in uniform, was walking with a citizen when they happened upon the suspect leaving a cell phone store near the 3900 block of Liberty Heights Avenue.

The suspect had some sort of dispute in the store and shot at a building, Davis said.

Around the corner, he then shot at the 43-year-old firefighter, who sustained a nonfatal gunshot wound to the hand, and a 65-year-old civilian, who was shot in the leg, according to Davis.

“For no apparent reason whatsoever, our shooter indiscriminately and arrogantly shoots at them,” Davis said, recounting what happened. “Thank God their wounds are not fatal.”

The victims were not identified pending notification of their families.
Preliminary investigation indicated the shooter was a slim African-American man in his 20s with no facial hair, Davis said. The suspect was described as approximately 5’11”. Police reported he remains at large.

We wish both Firefighters who were shot today, a quick recovery.
