FOXBORO, MASS.

The North Attleboro man who died at a Providence hospital after being critically injured in a motorcycle accident was a married father who loved the outdoors and riding his motorcycle.

John Crowder, 56, of 585 Mt. Hope St. in North Attleboro, died Wednesday night at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed this morning.

He was taken to the hospital after suffering critical injuries around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday night when he lost control of his motorcycle at a curve on South Street near Water Street, according to police.

Crowder dumped his motorcycle and slid on a grassy area off the road before striking a pole and coming to rest near Water Street, Foxboro Police Chief Edward O’Leary said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Foxboro police Lt. Allan Haskell, an accident reconstruction expert, and the state police accident reconstruction and collision analysis unit.

Family members, including his widow Karen, were gathered at home this afternoon but were too grief stricken to talk about him. The couple has a son and daughter who live in the Attleboro area.

Crowder was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and riding his Harley Davidson bike. He also enjoyed playing softball and sports, according to his obituary.

Crowder, who grew up in Wrentham and Tennessee, lived in North Attleboro for the last 22 years. He was employed as an elevator mechanic at Buckley Elevators in Weymouth for the past two years and previously worked at Thyssen Crupp Elevator in Westwood for over two decades.

A funeral service is scheduled 10 a.m. on Aug. 3, at Sperry-McHoul Funeral Home in North Attleboro.
