840 gallons of oil, and 10,300 gallons of saltwater spill at Houston-based EOG Resources well site near Parshall, ND

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - 

North Dakota regulators say 20 barrels of oil and 246 barrels of saltwater spilled at a well site near Parshall.

Officials say the spill was reported Wednesday by Houston-based EOG Resources, which owns the well.

The company says the oil and saltwater was contained and recovered at the site, about four miles southwest of Parshall. The company says the spill was caused by a tank overflow.

Regulators said Thursday that an inspector has been sent to the location.

The Parshall Oil Field is an oil field producing from the Bakken Formation and Three Forks Formation near the town of Parshall, in Mountrail County, North Dakota. The field is in the Williston Basin. The field was discovered in 2006 by EOG Resources, which drilled, and now operates, most of the wells.[1] It was the discovery of the Parshall Field that was largely responsible for the North Dakota oil boom.[2] Parshall’s break-even price is at US$38/barrel, which is the lowest on the Bakken Formation; overall, Bakken’s break-even point is of US$62/barrel.[3]
