BEMIDJI, Minn. (KMSP) -
A 6-year-old riding with her mother on an ATV in Beltrami County died after falling from the moving vehicle.

The Beltrami County sheriff's office responded to the scene in Hines Township, about 23 miles northeast of Bemidji, on Monday around 4 p.m. The incident happened on private land located 1.5 miles west of Blackduck on County Rd. 32 in the 20500 block of Nebish Rd NE.

Skyla Nesvig apparently fell from the moving ATV, which was being driven by her mother, Jennifer Nesvig. Sheriff's officials did not say if Skyla was wearing a helmet.

"Immediate lifesaving efforts by family members and first responders were unsuccessful and the child died at the scene," Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said in a release.

The sheriff's office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating and her official cause of death has not been released. Identities of those involved are being withheld.
