A 61-year-old Coos Bay man died over the weekend during a
boating trip on the Umpqua River, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported
Monday.
Dean L. Montgomery's body was found floating facedown in the
Umpqua River at about 5 p.m. Saturday, said Dwes Hutson, a sheriff's office
spokesman.
Deputies found Montgomery's body and his 19-foot boat about
13 miles east of Reedsport. The boat was found near Montgomery's body with its
engine still running. Investigators found extensive damage to the boat's propeller
and transom.
A personal floatation device was not found on Montgomery's
body, according to Hutson.
Montgomery's death is being investigated as an accident,
Hutson said.
