A
two-vehicle accident in the Town of Kansasville on Sunday left one man
dead, according to a Racine County Sheriff's Office news release.
The accident occurred on state Highway 75, just south of county Highway A. Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call and found a truck engulfed in flames. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a Ford Escape northbound on Highway 75 had fallen asleep, according to the news release. The car drifted into the southbound land and struck a Chevy pickup truck that was pulling a trailer. The driver of the pickup truck tried to evade the collision but was still struck and forced into a ditch, where he became trapped. The vehicle then caught fire.
Kansasville firefighters extinguished the blaze and provided medical assistance to the Ford Escape's driver and passenger.
Everyone involved in the accident appears to have been wearing seatbelts, police said. It remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
