WALHALLA, SC (FOX CAROLINA)

Two people were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital after a single-engine plane crashed near Walhalla (Oconee County) on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred near Duck Pond Road just after 2:30 p.m.

Fire Chief Charlie King said single-engine two-seat plane went off the runway and into a grove of trees.

King said the plane was attempting to land at a private airstrip when it clipped some trees on its approach and crashed.

He said both occupants were injured and transported by helicopter to the hospital. King said they were alert and talking with officials on scene.

The FAA was notified and was headed to the scene, said King.
