JAMES CITY COUNTY, VIRGINIA (WAVY)
A 52-year-old man has died after being hit by a pickup truck
in James City County Thursday evening.
Around 9 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 7200 block of
Merrimac Trail for a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, according
to Deputy Chief Stephen Rubino with the James City County Police
Department.
The preliminary investigation indicates a man was
walking across the street from a 7-Eleven store to the Cambridge Apartments
when he was hit by a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound.
Rubino said the man was taken to the Riverside Doctor’s
Hospital in Williamsburg, where he was pronounced dead.
The 19-year-old driver was not injured.
Police are not releasing the man's name until family is
properly notified. The crash remains under investigation. Information about whether or not charges will
be filed has not yet been released.
The
area appears to have the minimal amount of lighting and certainly at 9 pm at
night there could have been additional factors that may have contributed to
this tragic accident. Crossing a main
road in the middle of the night takes extra precaution so that accidents like
that do not occur.
