A tower crane operator lifting a long load in Halifax, Nova Scotia,
yesterday entangled it in power lines running along the site, cutting of
power to over 1,500 local homes.
The load being lifted from a truck, which looks like a security fence, appears to have buckled badly as it was being lifted - due to inadequate rigging - and almost certainly played a part in the in the incident. Local witnesses say that the load was swinging just before it tangled with the power lines.
The emergency services, linesmen from Nova Scotia Power and the Labour department, which is investigating the incident – all descended on the site to resolve the situation. There were no injuries associated with the incident.
