UPPER WEST SIDE, MANHATTAN, NYC
A pipe burst at an Upper West Side movie theater yesterday
afternoon, forcing moviegoers to be evacuated.
The theater, the wonderfully renovated 84th Street AMC
Theater on Broadway at West 84th Street, had been showing films like American
Sniper, Spongebob Squarepants, The Kingsman and 50 Shades of Grey.
But then
came the deluge:
According to WCBS 2, an overhead sprinkler pipe burst,
apparently due to the cold weather. The service technician told the station
this was his fourth call about freezing pipes. In a dramatic moment, a lighting
fixture in the entrance atrium came crashing down.
The theater was closed until 11 p.m.
