TORONTO, CANADA
Roller-coaster temperatures in Toronto are creating havoc
around the city, with many water pipes bursting.
A burst pipe sent water gushing onto Queen’s Quay, near Rees
Street, early on Tuesday morning.
Water gushed out of a pipe in a laneway leaving a river
streaming down the road.
Also on Queen’s Quay around 6 a.m. on Monday, a watermain
broke, this time inside Redpath Sugar Refinery. Water pooled beside the
building and salters were brought in.
There were several more broken pipes overnight.
Water rained down the front lobby of a commercial building
at Adelaide and Yonge streets, flowing out onto the street. The water has been
shut off, but the cold weather is now a concern since the water will ice over.
The basement of the King Edward Hotel, at King Street East
and Victoria Street, was flooded with at least three feet of water.
Water also leaked out of the Future Shop in the Weston Road
and Highway 401 area after a pipe burst inside the store.
A broke pipe was also to blame after water from a Popeyes
location, near Yonge and Wellesley streets, flowed onto the street.
