GOLIAD
COUNTY, TEXAS:
A Texas oil
field worker died Monday after falling from an Xcel Energy Production and
Progenies Energy operated oil rig in Goliad County, Texas. The rig location was at the 900 block of
Dobskyville Road in rural Goliad County.
Scotty
O’Neal Stanley, 40, was working near the top of a 50 foot tall rig when he
slipped and fell, the Victoria Advocate said.
Goliad
County Sheriff’s Office said a safety harness stopped Stanley’s fall but he hit
the rig’s superstructure and was knocked unconscious.
“The victim
had a visible injury to his forehead; however, an autopsy revealed this was not
a fatal injury,” Goliad County Sgt. John Pape said.
Officials
are waiting on additional lab tests to confirm the cause of death.
Other
workers at the site said they did not witness the accident but heard Stanley’s
hardhat hit the ground and then looked up to see Stanley dangling from his
safety harness.
Another
worker lowered the victim to the base of the rig. Stanley had died by the time
emergency personnel arrived. Sgt. John Pape says the worker had a visible head
injury.
The Goliad
County Justice of the Peace has been asked to perform a formal inquiry into
Stanley’s death.

OR INJURED BY A PREVENTABLE WORKPLACE HAZARD, THIS IS NO ACCIDENT. IT MEANS THE EMPLOYER FAILED TO PROTECT
WORKERS FROM DANGERS THAT CAN CAUSE INJURY, ILLNESS OR, NEEDLESS DEATH
