COLUMBUS, Ohio - Several east Columbus intersections were closed Monday and into Tuesday due to a gas leak.

According to Columbus firefighters, the leak was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Cassady Avenue and East 5th Avenue.

A 12-inch line was ruptured by a gas company contractor, according to firefighters.
Most residents in the area were asked to shelter in place. Thirteen families evacuated their homes, and the American Red Cross sheltered them at the Jeffrey Mansion in Bexley.
North Cassady Avenue, North Dawson Avenue, and Northview Avenue were closed between East 5th Avenue and the railroad tracks.
