Copper pipe thief Ralph Henry Elliott, 47, electrocuted to death as he was cutting wire inside the power station of Seneca Coal Resources in Alabama

OAK GROVE, AL

(WIAT) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 47-year-old man who was found on a mining property near Oak Grove.

According to a release by the sheriff’s office, the man was found dead inside a fenced power station on the property Wednesday afternoon. Deputies were called to the 8800 block of Oak Grove Mine Road around 12:30. A family member reportedly discovered the man after he did not return home the night before.

There were wire cutters and pieces of copper wire near the body inside the fenced area. Authorities believe he was electrocuted while attempting to take copper wire from the power station.

Family members reported that they had last seen the victim the night before. He said he was going to look for scrap metal.

Officials are still waiting on the medical examiner’s report for the official cause of death.

A Bessemer man was found dead Wednesday inside a fenced area of a mining property near Oak Grove.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man as Ralph Henry Elliott. He was 47.

Sheriff's deputies responded about 12:30 p.m. to Seneca Coal Resources in the 8800 block of Oak Grove Mine Road. Elliott was unresponsive inside a gated power station and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian said Elliott was discovered by a family member after he failed to return home the night before. They said he had left home telling them he was going to look for scrap metal.

Wire cutters and pieces of copper wire were near his body, Christian said. "Evidence indicates that he was electrocuted while attempting to take copper wire from the power station,'' he said.

A conclusive cause of death is pending the results from Elliott's autopsy, which is scheduled for today.

SPEEDING DRUNKS DIE HARD IN KANSAS: 3 young men died after their speeding 2009 Ford Fusion they were in ran off the road and struck the left guardrail

OLATHE, Kan. -- Three men in their 20s died Thursday morning when the vehicle they were traveling in hit a guardrail.

The Kansas Highway Patrol online crash report says 21-year-old Darius Thomas was driving 24-year-old Nicholas Sands and 21-year-old Dalton Suggs at the time of the crash. Sands was a star running back while at Olathe South High School.

According to investigators, the 2009 Ford Fusion they were in ran off the road and struck the left guardrail around 3:30 a.m., but what caused the vehicle to hit the guardrail is still unclear.

Traffic was diverted off of eastbound K-10 at Cedar Creek Parkway for several hours while investigators remained on the scene. The eastbound lanes of the highway remained closed through the morning rush. They finally reopened around noon.

This was another speeding DUI crash. Most of these crashes occur in the early a.m. hours, like this case.   Judging from the massive damage to the 2009 Ford Fusion, these people were speeeding prior to the crash.

And of course these black dummies were not wearing their seat-belts.  We are certain they will blame white supremacists for their own stupidity.  They will also ask for the removal of the statutes of God Dionysus, the god of wine, as they will claim he was responsible for their irresponsibility.  All that while they are supported by welfare dollars from hard working Americans.

OLATHE, Kan. (KSNT) – Three people are dead following a single car crash in Johnson County early Thursday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2009 Ford Fusion was eastbound on K-10, just west of Cedar Creek Parkway in Olathe, when it ran off the road striking a guardrail.

The crash was reported at 3:17 a.m.

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Darius J. Thomas and the two passengers were identified as Nicholas A. Sands, 24, and Dalton R. Suggs, 21, all three were from Olathe.

According to KHP, all three were not wearing seat belts.  It also appears they were speeding, judging from the massive damage to the 2009 Ford Fusion.

Three men in their 20s died when their car crashed into a guardrail along Kansas 10 in Olathe early Thursday, forcing the highway to remain closed for several hours.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the men as Darius J. Thomas, 21, Nicholas A. Sands, 24, and Dalton R. Suggs, 21, all of Olathe.

The crash occurred about 3:15 a.m. along eastbound K-10 at Cedar Creek Parkway in Olathe, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The three men were traveling east on K-10 in a 2009 Ford Fusion when Thomas lost control of the car for an unknown reason, said Technical Trooper Candice Breshears, a spokeswoman for the highway patrol.

The eastbound lanes of K-10 remained closed while authorities investigated the crash. The highway reopened about noon.

The crash remains under investigation.

“We are having a lot of crashes out there lately,” Breshears said. People need to “make sure everyone is paying attention to their driving when they driving. Wear your seat belts. Put your cell phones down. Don’t drive distracted.”

People should follow the same safe driving habits every time they get behind the wheel, she said.

Six area fire departments respond

(Photo: Kyra Vanisko)

Dave Lee, acting assistant chief of the Black Eagle Fire Department, says he has a pretty good idea of what caused a fire that burned 40 acres in Black Eagle Wednesday.

It wasn't lightning.

It wasn't farm equipment.

It wasn't arson.

It was a hungry hawk with dinner in its claws.

"A dead hawk was found burned and it had contacted the power lines," Lee said. "The amazing thing is it still had a small snake gripped in its talons."

It isn't unusual for birds and squirrels to cause fires, Lee said.

A bird catching a snake before meeting its fiery end is.

"It was just awesome," said firefighter Kyra Vanisko, who snapped a photo of the charred bird underneath a power pole. "I wasn't expecting to find a hawk with a snake in its claws still."

The bird was toast, but its talons survived, and they remained gripped around a foot-long bull snake even in death.

Because of its condition, Vanisko couldn't make out the species of hawk, which was about the size of small cat.

“He’s a crispy critter,” she said.

Power outages caused by animals and birds in Montana are not unusual, said Butch Larcombe, a spokesman for NorthWestern Energy.

"I have dealt with outages caused by squirrels, beavers, geese, raptors and even snakes," Larcombe said. "But this is my first experience with a hawk-snake combination."

During an outage in the Helena area about six years ago, a deer fawn was found in a power line after an outage, Larcombe said.

NorthWestern suspects that an eagle may have snatched the fawn from the ground and dropped it on the power line while in flight.

The collision between bird and power line in Black Eagle didn't cause a power outage, but it did cause a fire, Lee said.

The hawk’s wing span may have contacted the power line, generating sparks that started the fire, he said.

Fire departments were notified of the fire at about 11 a.m.

It burned in grassland on property that once served as a landfill off of Rainbow Dam Road.

Firefighters from Black Eagle, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana Air National Guard, Sand Coulee, Gore Hill and Ulm flew to the scene.

“It was running pretty good. It was spreading,” Lee said. “We got it stopped before it crossed the coulee and got into stubble.”

A third alarm was requested because of the great deal of smoke that was visible and the blaze was difficult to get to.

“There’s no public road and it was just in rough terrain, a lot of dips and coulees,” Lee said.

Five or six power poles were damaged.

With conditions so dry, the fire spread quickly.

If the fire would have continued past the coulee where it was stopped, it would have reached a power company switch yard, Lee said.
