DEAD, 8 OTHERS WOUNDED IN CHICAGO CITY SHOOTINGS
Our heart breaks to hear all these killings in the once great city of Chicago. We typically do not cover crime investigations, but since this is the city where some of our collegues grew up and got education and worked, all this non-stop violence is hitting home. Eventually we will clean up this mess, but not without some strong will from the law abiding citizens. We cannot continue see the image of the City of Broad Shoulders, our Windy City deteriorate any further. We have to take action and eradicate the violence.

A man died and at least 8 other people were wounded in
separate shootings since Wednesday afternoon.
About 6:40 p.m., a man was shot in the torso and another
man was shot in the leg in the 5100 block of South Racine Avenue, according to police.
Police said gunmen stepped out of a vehicle, opened fire and then fled.
The man shot in the leg was found in the 5000 block of
South Elizabeth Street. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Healthcare
Center and was stable.
The other man, 40, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr.
Hospital in critical condition with multiple chest wounds. He was
pronounced dead at 7:39 p.m.
He was identified as Darriel Woods of the 5600 block of
South Bishop Avenue by the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy
Thursday determined that he died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death was
ruled a homicide.
A 31-year-old man was shot during a robbery in the
Washington Park neighborhood, in the 5100 block of South Calumet
Avenue, about 8:35 p.m.
The man was in the area when two male offenders robbed
him and fired shots, said Chicago police spokesman Officer Hector Alfaro.
He was shot in the head and taken to John H. Stroger
Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Alfaro said.
Additional information about that shooting wasn't
immediately available.
On the West Side, two people were shot about 7:15 p.m. in
the 3300 block of West Warren Boulevard, police said. A 30-year-old man was
shot in the hip and back and was stable at Stroger Hospital. The other victim,
37, was shot in the hand and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
Earlier on the South Side, a boy was shot at about 6:15
p.m. in the 4400 block of South Drexel Avenue. He was taken to Northwestern
Memorial Hospital. His condition has been stabilized, police said. He was shot
inside an apartment building.
In the West Garfield Park neighborhood, someone opened
fire near a gas station Wednesday afternoon, wounding an employee and a person
who had been standing near a car.
It doesn't appear that the two people shot were the
intended targets, police said. The shooting happened at 3 p.m. in the 3900
block of West Washington Boulevard, police said.
One of the men was taken to Stroger hospital in
serious condition. He had a wound to his arm and chest, police said.
The second man, 46, was shot in the leg and taken to
Mount Sinai. His condition had stabilized, police said.
Detectives arrived about 4 p.m., and police closed off
the gas station with red tape while some of the employees remained inside.
Around 1:20 a.m. Thursday, a 21-year-old man was injured
in a gang-related shooting in the East Side neighborhood on the Far South Side,
Alfaro said.
The man was standing near his car in the 10600 block of
South Green Bay Avenue when a gray sedan drove past him and someone inside
shouted gang slogans and then fired shots, police said.
The man was hit in the right foot and was taken to
Advocate Trinity Hospital in good condition, Alfaro said.
Police officers at the scene searched for evidence, took
pictures of a gray Buick and examined a shell casing in the middle of the road.
