Man dies in boat crash on Lake Emily in Dodge County, authorities say

TOWN OF FOX LAKE, WI — A boat containing two people collided into a still fishing boat on Lake Emily on Thursday causing the death of one man, authorities reported.
Several local agencies responded after the 911 call came in at 10:53 a.m., Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Scott Smith said.
The state Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident.
Recreational safety warden Kyle Drake said three people were in the boat fishing while two people were in the moving boat.
Three people needed to be hospitalized while one man, who had been in the boat that was moving, died at the scene, Drake said.
At this point, Drake said the DNR is trying to determine the cause of the crash.
“We have to see what happened and try to piece it together,” Drake said. “There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.”
Drake said they are working with Dodge County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.
Dodge County Sheriff, Fox Lake Fire Department, Markesan EMS, Beaver Dam EMS and DNR responded to the scene at Lake Emily in town of Fox Lake.
“People have to always keep a look out in the water, just like they do when they are driving a car,” Drake said. “There was also no indication anyone was wearing a life jacket.”
Ninety percent of deaths that are investigated on the water are from drowning, Drake said.

DODGE COUNTY, WI — Two people were involved in an accident on Lake Emily in Dodge County on Thursday morning, May 25th.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says emergency crews were dispatched to the lake in the Township of Fox Point shortly before 11:00 a.m.
Officials say CPR was done on one of the persons involved in the wreck. Flight for Life was also dispatched to the scene.
In addition to the Dodge County sheriff’s deputies that responded, DNR wardens and firefighters from Fox Lake and Markesan also responded to the scene.
TOWN OF SHEBOYGAN FALLS — The FAA confirmed Friday a pilot was killed after his plane crashed in Sheboygan County.
Emergency crews responded to a farm field near County Road O and Willow Road shortly after 12:30 PM on Friday, May 26th after reports of a small plane crashing in the field.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a Pitts S2A small aircraft crashed in the field but does not know how or why. The pilot died at the scene. Investigators from the FAA will be responding to the scene. Firefighters from the Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department are working to extricate the pilot from the aircraft.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Orange Cross Ambulance, Johnsonville Fire Department and Town of Sheboygan Falls First Responders also responded to the scene of the plane crash.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Two men were killed in an airplane crash in a field near the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport on Friday afternoon.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office said the small, single-engine plane went down at N6217 Willow Road in Sheboygan Falls at 12:30 p.m.
Authorities said two adult males were killed in the crash but their names have not yet been released.
Sheriff's officials said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating with the sheriff's department.

WOODBURY, New York (WABC) --
Two people were found dead inside a car Friday morning following an accident in Orange County.
The car went off the road at the intersection of Smith Clove Road and Mineral Springs Road in Highland Mills, which is part of the town of Woodbury.
Police got a call at about 10:52 a.m. from a passerby who said they saw a silver car about 50 feet into the woods.
Police responded and confirmed the two victims, a male and a female, inside the car. According to police, both victims were in their late teens/early 20's. The female was the driver.
Hours after the accident, the mangled vehicle was pulled from the woods, an unrecognizable mess of twisted metal and broken glass.
The force of the crash was such that the bodies of the victims had to be cut out of the car.
The Pontiac Grand Prix was barely visible from the roadway, but someone driving by noticed it and called 911.
"Somebody called, the accident had already occurred," said Woodbury Police Sgt. John Burke. "We're not sure how long the car had been there."
A state police accident reconstruction team was sent to the scene as investigators try and determine the cause of the crash, though police say speed appears to have been a contributing factor.
The road is notorious for speeding and accidents.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

TOWN OF WOODBURY - A one-car crash that was discovered Friday off Mineral Springs Road left a gray Pontiac a mass of twisted metal and took the lives of two young adults, police said.
Town of Woodbury police Sgt. John Bourke said a 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were declared dead at the scene. As of late Friday, police were withholding release of the victims’ names, pending notification of family members. Bourke said the woman who died in the crash was driving, and the man was sitting in the front passenger seat.
He said they were not from the Town of Woodbury. He also said they had different last names, so it was unclear if they were related.
Police said the fatal accident occurred about 100 yards north of Trout Brook Road. Bourke said the car, which was traveling north on Mineral Springs Road, struck a guardrail, veered across the roadway, continued about 50 feet into the woods, and struck a tree.
The crash left the car almost severed in half, with its front section smashed and the windshield shattered. Police worked at the scene for about five hours Friday, removing the victims from the car, then loading the wreckage onto a salvage truck.
Town of Woodbury police were conducting the investigation, with help from state police Accident Reconstruction specialists. Investigators were on the scene most of Friday afternoon. The road was reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m.
Police could not give the exact time that the accident occurred. A passerby spotted the wreck about 10:45 a.m. Friday and notified police, who arrived on the scene shortly before 11 a.m. Bourke said the cause of the accident had not been determined, and the investigation will continue into the weekend.
Bourke could not immediately say how fast the Pontiac was traveling when it ran off the road. He said the speed limit on that section of Mineral Springs Road - a two-lane, rural road - is 50 mph.
Bourke said the investigation will look into whether speed was a factor in the crash or if alcohol or drugs were involved.

ROSEDALE, Queens (WABC) --
16 children and one adult were hurt after a crash between a bus and a truck in Queens Friday.
Just before 10 a.m., an occupied school bus and a truck collided at Rockaway and Brookville Boulevards in the Rosedale section.
According to the New York City Police Department, there were around 25 students on the school bus.
The injured were taken to St. John's Hospital for observation.
Worried parents rushed to the hospitals to check on their children.
Fortunately, all of the injuries are minor and non-life threatening.
The bus had slowed down because of water covering Brookville Boulevard and a box truck going in the opposite direction sideswiped the bus.
The bus company is Grandpa's Bus Company, based in Jamaica, Queens.

Queens school bus crash sends children to hospital, NYPD says

Seventeen children were taken to the hospital after their school bus collided with a box truck in Jamaica, Queens, Friday morning, police said.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Rockaway and Brookville boulevards, not far from Kennedy Airport. There were 25 children on the bus at the time, according to police.
The children were taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, they said.
There were no reports of injuries to the bus and truck drivers, who remained at the scene and were cooperating with police, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.
The details of the crash were still under investigation Friday afternoon, but no arrests have been made, the spokeswoman said.
