Oakland Police Officer Hurt in Fiery Crash With Fellow Officer: Report

A police SUV catches fire after colliding with another patrol car in Oakland.
An Oakland police officer was injured Sunday after a pair of police patrol cars were involved in a fiery crash during the pursuit of a suspect, police told the Mercury News. It was the second Oakland police vehicle in as many days to burst into flames after a crash.
Sunday's crash occurred in the Fruitvale district at Carrington Street and 38th Avenue, where the pursuing patrol car, an SUV, collided with another patrol car, the Mercury News reported. The police SUV burst into flames, but the officer was able to escape without serious injury, according to witnesses. The officer driving the other patrol car reportedly was taken away in an ambulance. His condition was unknown.
The suspect being pursued was detained after reportedly crashing the vehicle he was driving into some parked cars about a mile from the police collision.
Sunday's crash came just hours after another Oakland police patrol car was invloved in a fiery crash on Interstate 580. In that collision, police chased a carjacking suspect onto the freeway around 11 p.m. Saturday. During the pursuit, another car stopped in the patrol car's path and the officer swerved, crashing into a pole. The officer's car caught fire, but he was not seriously injured.
The suspect in that pursuit was later arrested in San Leandro.
Coast Guard investigates unknown sheen in Lake Ontario

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an oil sheen in Lake Ontario near the Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Scriba, New York, approximately 10 miles northeast of Oswego, New York, Sunday.
The cause of the sheen is unknown at this time.
The Coast Guard has established a temporary safety zone extending two miles to the north and two miles to the east and west from the Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant.
A Coast Guard Auxiliary air crew noticed the sheen during a flight and reported it to Coast Guard Sector Buffalo.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Oswego launched and took samples of the sheen and is currently enforcing the safety zone.
Representatives from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are on scene.

Singapore Airlines Plane Catches Fire Moments After Making Emergency Landing

A Singapore Airlines plane bound for Milan caught fire while making an emergency landing at Singapore's Changi Airport early Monday morning.
The Boeing 777 was on its way from Singapore to Milan when it turned back "following an engine oil warning message."
Flight SQ368 landed at 7 a.m. local time, touching down more than four hours after takeoff.
Dramatic video from inside the plane captures the right wing engulfed in flames, which would ultimately be extinguished by ground crews.
All 222 passengers and 19 crew members were evacuated safely, according to the airline
Passengers were transferred to another aircraft that was to depart for Milan later Monday, the airline said.
Officials said one person was killed and several others injured when a car crashed into a taco stand in Boyle Heights.

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person was killed and nine others injured when a car crashed into a taco stand in Boyle Heights on Sunday, according to officials.
The crash happened in the 370 block of South Clarence Street at about 10:17 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Los Angeles police said people were in front of the taco stand ordering and waiting for food when a Nissan Altima crashed into vehicles near the stand and into them.
One person was killed and three were taken to the hospital, two of those in critical condition and the other with minor injuries, according to fire officials.
The person killed was at the taco stand, according to police, though it was undetermined if they were a customer or employee.
Six others who were hurt declined to go to the hospital after being checked at the scene.
Police said their investigation into what caused the crash was ongoing.

HUNTINGTON STATION, Long Island (WABC) -- A Lindenhurst man has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a three-vehicle crash that killed a woman in Huntington Station Sunday night.
Suffolk County Police say Ryan Gurecki was driving a 2010 Ford Explorer westbound on Jericho Turnpike when he struck a 2016 Ford Escape that was stopped at a red light on westbound Jericho Turnpike, waiting to make a left turn onto Route 110 at 9:23 p.m.
The three people in the Ford Escape were taken to Huntington Hospital, where Karen Holden, 56, of Huntington Station died from her injuries. Her husband, and driver of the Escape, William Holden, 57, suffered a head injury.
Her son, Robert Holden, 23, suffered a back injury. Both were listed in stable condition.
A third vehicle, a 2014 Honda Odyssey, operated by Hyun Chung, 59, of Melville, was also traveling westbound on Jericho Turnpike waiting to make a left turn onto Route 110 and was sideswiped by Gurecki's Explorer, authorities say. Chung was not injured.
Gurecki, 34, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
All three vehicles have been impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
