US Issues Potential Setback to Shell's Arctic Drilling to Protect Walrus and Polar Bears

The Obama administration issued a potential setback to Royal Dutch Shell's  Arctic oil exploration plans on Tuesday, telling the company that established wildlife protections prevent it from drilling two rigs simultaneously within 15 miles (24 km) of each other, as it had planned.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued Shell a permit on Tuesday that said that under existing federal walrus and polar bear protections, Shell must maintain a 15 mile buffer if it plans to drill two rigs simultaneously. In Shell's 2015 Arctic drilling plan, no two of its wells are more than 15 miles apart.

Construction worker crushed to death by tanks, soil on site of new Allsup's in Fritch, Texas

A man is dead after a construction accident in Fritch. 

 It happened around 2 Tuesday afternoon at 206 East Broadway where workers were building a new Allsups. 

According to the Fritch Police Department while installing fuel tanks, a worker was crushed by dirt walls and the fuel tanks. 

The man was declared dead at the scene.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (KMSP) - 


Authorities confirmed that one person is dead after the trench he was working in collapsed Tuesday afternoon in Lakeville, Minn.

According to police, the call came in around 3:45 p.m. of a collapse at a residential construction site near 179th and Hyde Park Ave.  When crews arrived, they found the male deceased in the trench around 7 feet deep. 

The brother of the deceased middle-aged male happened to be the person operating the backhoe at the time of the incident.

A recovery operation is still underway. We have a crew on scene and will update this story as more information becomes available.

Fiery collision between two semi-trucks closed I-295 in Virginia

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. 

Both drivers made it out of their tractor-trailer trucks on their own following a fiery crash Tuesday morning that closed northbound Interstate 295, near Route 895 (Pocahontas Parkway), in eastern Henrico. 

The accident, near exit 25, was first reported at 8:23 a.m.. The first emergency crews that arrived at the scene described the crash as “horrific.”

“The impact of the crash caused one of the tractor-trailers to catch fire. Neither driver was injured in the crash,” Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. “The left lane was reopened by 9:30 a.m. 

One of the trucks is loaded with bottled water. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.”

“The fire was quickly extinguished on the tractor trailer,” Henrico Fire spokesman Captain Daniel Rosenbaum said. “There was a small fuel leak that was also contained and prevented to enter waterway.”

The left lane of I-295 reopened at about 10 a.m.

“The right and center lanes remain closed,” VDOT advised. “The detour has been lifted. The backup is now two miles. Continue to expect delays.”

72-year old motorcyclist killed after crushed by the FrontRunner train in Ogden, Utah

OGDEN, Utah

 A motorcyclist is dead after he was struck by a FrontRunner train in Ogden Tuesday night.

The male was traveling west on 2nd Street when he collided with the lowered railroad crossing gate and crashed on the tracks at 500 West, according to tweets from Ogden police.

The male was then struck by the passing train. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim is believed to be 72 years old. Police are currently working on contacting next of kin.

It is currently unknown if there were any passengers were on the train at the time of the crash.
