ONE PERSON KILLED, A CHILD RUSHED TO HOSPITAL AFTER HEAD-ON COLLISION BETWEEN A CAR AND TRUCK IN WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A West Palm Beach man died Saturday night just before 8 o'clock in a crash at Haverhill Road and Cresthaven Boulevard.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Johnny Lara was driving a 2009 Nissan Sentra on Haverhill Road approaching Cresthaven when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the northbound lanes.
The driver of a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck was unable to avoid striking the Sentra, which had come into the path of the truck.
During the crash, investigators say the front of the truck collided with the passenger side of Lara's vehicle.
The driver and three passengers of the truck were not wearing their seatbelts and all were injured.
They were transported to St. Mary's Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
According to officials, a child who was not secured properly in a car seat was airlifted to the hospital.
Lara was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Poughkeepsie man is in critical condition after a one-vehicle accident in Union Vale this morning, according to a state police news release.
Major Singh Sandhu, 54, was driving eastbound on Route 55 when he lost control of his pickup on black ice, police said.

Around 9:35 a.m., state troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to the crash on State Route 55 in Union Vale.

His truck crossed over the double-yellow line into the westbound lane, and went onto the north shoulder before leaving the roadway, striking a guide rail and rolling over multiple times.

The truck went down an embankment and Sandhu, who police say was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected when the vehicle rolled over.
He was found unconscious near the vehicle, police said.

Sandhu was treated by TransCare EMS and the Union Vale Rescue Squad before being transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for extensive head trauma, police said. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Investigation into the crash is continuing. State police were assisted by the Union Vale Fire Department.

NAKHON PATHOM — A mother and her five-year-old child died in an inferno when a truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) they were travelling in crashed into the rear of a 10-wheel truck in Muang district on Monday.

The accident occurred on Malaiman Road near the provincial bus terminal about 1.30am. The LPG truck’s driver was injured in the collision and was taken to hospital. The woman and the child, the driver's family, were reportedly trapped in the vehicle as it caught fire and then exploded. Their identities and the cause of the fatal crash were not known. Police closed both inbound and outbound access to the accident scene.

ROGERS, Ark. (AP) - One person is dead following a fatal house fire in northwestern Arkansas.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1yzGUTR ) that the fire was reported just after 6 a.m. Sunday in Rogers. Deputy Fire Chief Bryan Hinds says the caller reported that a person was still inside the house.

Hinds says that when firefighters arrived, the room the victim was in was engulfed in flames. A second person who was inside the residence when the fire started was not injured.

The name and other details about the victim were not immediately released. Property records show the house is owned by James T. Wilfong and Judy Gayle Wilfong.

Hinds says the cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.

A neglected pot of grease is the cause behind a fire at an apartment complex near the University of Central Florida Saturday night that left 25 to 30 people without a home, according to a state Fire Marshal spokeswoman.

 

Orange County Fire Rescue crews were on scene at The Place at Alafaya apartment complex on Mackay Boulevard and Wagon Road after 11 p.m. Saturday.

“We came out and all we saw was flames,” said resident J.C. Hervins, who lives next door to where the fire started. He said he lost “literally everything.”

Pradens Pierre-Louis lives above where the fire started. “I could not see anything. I fell from the top of the stairs to the bottom.”

“The whole neighborhood was full of smoke,” Jackie Albino, a neighboring resident, said.
Fire Marshal spokeswoman Ashley Carr said Sunday that the fire was accidental, originating when a resident left a pot of grease on the stove and left the room. He came back to find the pot on fire.

The fire then spread to several other units in the 20-unit building, Carr said, but did not spread to other buildings in the larger complex. Orange County Fire Rescue said eight apartments were affected, sustaining either water or fire damage.

All residents were evacuated, but one resident injured himself on broken glass when he attempted to return to his unit to save his pets, Carr said. One dog was saved but another dog and two cats were lost.

The local Red Cross is assisting residents with a place to stay, Carr said, while apartment management is attempting to find homes for the displaced within the larger complex.
