ROBESON TWP., Pa. -

A Berks County man lost his life on the job at a quarry near Birdsboro late Wednesday night.

Rescue crews said they were dispatched to H&K Quarry on Hay Creek Road in Robeson Township shortly before midnight Wednesday for the report of a man trapped in a conveyor belt approximately 50 feet above the ground.

The victim, later identified by the coroner as Brent Cosner, 29, of Colebrookdale Township, was found to have already died before emergency personnel arrived on the scene, officials said.

"It's just a freak accident," said Chuck Mavin, a neighbor. "Never happened before and I doubt it'll ever happen again, but you know, accidents do happen."

Crews had to disassemble multiple frame components of the conveyor to free Cosner, officials said, describing it as "a very difficult task in an extremely challenging environment."
