Suffolk County Police Third Squad Detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed two people and injured five others in Brentwood this afternoon.

Olvin Jimenez was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla southbound on Crooked Hill Road when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the northbound lane, where the vehicle was struck by a 2005 Toyota RAV4 at approximately 1:38 p.m.

Both the driver of the Corolla, Olvin Jimenez, 39, and front seat passenger Erica Jimenez-Mejia, 39, of 224 Sherman Avenue in Brentwood, were pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Two children, ages two and ten, who were passengers in the back seat of the Corolla, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the RAV4, Allissiana Rose Licata, 21, and passengers Nicholas Licata, 17, and Emmanuel Licata, 73, all of Bay Shore were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

A husband and wife were the two people killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood, Suffolk County police said early Monday.

Five other people, including their two children, were injured in the crash. There was no update on their condition Monday, police said.

Olvin Jimenez was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla south on Crooked Hill Road, just south of the Long Island Expressway, when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic, police said. His vehicle struck a 2005 Toyota RAV4 with three people inside, police said.

Jimenez and his wife Erica Jimenez-Mejia, both 39 and from Brentwood, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Their two children, ages 2 and 10, who were in the backseat of their car were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries. The 2-year-old child was in an appropriate seat, the police said Monday.

The driver of the RAV4, Allissiana Rose Licata, 21, and passengers Nicholas Licata, 17, and Emmanuel Licata, 73 — all three from Bay Shore — were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries.

The circumstaces of the crash were still under investigation on Monday afternoon, police officials said.

Two people were killed and five people -- including children -- were injured when a driver lost control and veered into oncoming traffic on a Long Island road this weekend.

Suffolk County police say the driver, 39-year-old Olvin Jimenez, died in the crash in Brentwood on Sunday afternoon. Also killed was the front-seat passenger, 39-year-old Erica Jimenez-Mejia.

The driver was at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla on Crooked Hill Road when he crossed into the opposite lane, slamming into a Toyota RAV4.

Two children in the back seat of the Corolla, ages 2 and 10, were being treated for injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. They remain in critical condition.

The driver of the RAV4, 21-year-old Allissiana Rose Licata, and two passengers, 17-year-old Nicholas Licata and 73-year-old Emmanuel Licata, suffered injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
