Worker dies after Sharon industrial accident
SHARON, Mass. —
A worker injured Thursday in an industrial incident in Sharon has died.
The incident happened just before 9:30 a.m. at Industrial Metal Products, a metal fabrication company at 15 Merchant St. in Sharon.
When first responders arrived, a 26-year-old man was found pinned in a large piece of machinery with life threatening injuries, Sharon police said.
Sharon first responders and Norfolk County Technical Rescue team worked for about an hour to extricate the man.
The worker was taken by ambulance to Norwood Hospital.
Although the worker was initially conscious and talking when rescue crews arrived, he died from his injuries.
His name has not been released.
“Any time we deal with somebody dying, it's difficult and it takes its toll over a firefighter or paramedic's career. Yeah, very difficult. But we'll have our critical incident stress debriefing to make sure everybody's doing OK,” Murphy said.
Industrial Metal Products had no comment on the incident. According to its website, the company cuts and shapes aluminum and steel into cabinets, counter-tops and other products.
It's been in business for 60 years.
Sharon police detectives and State Police are investigating the incident. OSHA has been notified.
