A worker installing refrigeration piping at Sutter Home's Main Street facility in St. Helena died at mid-day Thursday after falling 16 feet through a skylight, St. Helena Police reported.
The man, whose name has not been released by authorities, was an employee of Applied Process Cooling Corporation, an outside industrial refrigeration contractor based in Modesto, the winery said.
Cal Fire got a call at 12:15 p.m. of the workplace accident at 100 Main St., a Cal Fire official said.
Cal Fire, the St. Helena Fire Department and St. Helena Police answered the call, said police Officer Steve Peterson. The worker, who sustained severe head injuries, died after attempts at CPR, he said.
"It's just a tragic accident," Peterson said.
In a statement, the winery said "the Trinchero team is fully cooperating with the contractor, APCCO, as well as OSHA as they investigate."
