OAK LAWN, Ill. (WLS) --
One person was killed after a Metra Southwest Service Line train hit an SUV in southwest suburban Oak Lawn.The train hit a Honda Pilot at 97th and Central at approximately 8:10 a.m. Monday. The driver of the vehicle was killed in the accident, according to Metra. The driver has not been identified.
A witness who saw everything said driver was crossing the tracks and didn't realize the gates were down. The SUV went through the gate and braked hard before getting hit by the train.
Service was initially halted in both directions and by 9:30 a.m. trains were moving again in with delays.
