Positive identification of four victims of a fiery early Saturday morning crash will have to wait for DNA results, according to Louisiana State Police.
The names of the four who died in the crash around 4:15 a.m. on La. Highway 10 between Oakdale and Pitkin are being withheld by State Police pending those results, reads a release. Someone driving a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck lost control and ran off the road.
The driver overcorrected, came back onto the highway and ran off the road again. The truck hit several trees and then became "fully engulfed in flames," reads the release.
Excessive speed is a suspected factor in the crash. The four occupants were trapped inside and died at the scene, reads the release.
"It is unknown, at this time, if seat belts were used by the occupants or if the driver was impaired," it reads.
An investigation is continuing.
