KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A large transformer at the Quindaro Power Plant exploded Wednesday leaving hundreds of residents without power.

The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities said a 69 kV transformer exploded at the plant which also took out three of their 161 kV transmission lines.

The plant is located 3601 N. 12th St.

"The key is that there were no injuries as safety of our employees and our community is our top priority," said BPU spokesman David Mehlhaff.

The transmission lines out resulted in over 600 customers being out including industrial customers in Fairfax like Owens Corning and General Motors.

Crews are working to isolate the issues and get power restored to customers as soon as possible.
