JEFFERSON TWP., Greene County —

UPDATE @ 11:25 p.m.

Two young men inside a pickup that flipped over tonight had been drinking, speeding and weren’t wearing seat belts, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Now, troopers say 21-year-old Kyle Minix of Bowersville is seriously injured but lucky to survive the rollover crash reported around 7:45 p.m. along Corry Road between Bowersville and Wilmington.

Minix’s passenger, a 20-year-old man, was not injured.

Trooper Jason Kelly said Minix lost control traveling north on Corry Road after going off the right side of the road, striking a mailbox and overcorrecting, then going off the left side of the road and flipping over twice. Fishing poles, beer cases were among debris thrown from the pickup.

“The passenger did admit drinking himself, and he was with the driver who was drinking as well,” Kelly said.

“He went as far to say he didn’t feel comfortable with the driver drinking and suggested several times to stop and sober up,” Kelly said of the passenger.

Minix was taken by medical helicopter to Kettering Medical Center, Kelly said. No condition information was available fron the hospital late Saturday.
