WORKER CRITICALLY INJURED AFTER FALLING 50 FEET INTO A CARGO HOLD OF A SHIP AT THE PORT OF HOUSTON.

HOUSTON, TEXAS

A worker was hospitalized late Friday after falling into a cargo hold of a ship at the Port of Houston.

The worker, who has not been identified, fell about 50 feet shortly before 10 p.m., sustaining multiple injuries, officials said.

A rescue basket was used to pull the injured worker from the cargo hold.

The injured person was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to the Texas Medical Center in unknown condition.

The Port of Houston police and the U.S. Coast Guard are investigating the accident.
