COAST GUARD RESPONDING TO DIESEL FUEL SPILL NEAR ST. LOUIS

HARTFORD, ILLINOIS

The Coast Guard in coordination with Phillips 66 is responding to a report of a diesel fuel spill in the Cahokia Canal in the upper Mississippi River, Friday.

The Mississippi River is closed from MM 160 to MM 195.

Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River watchstanders were notified that an underwater pipeline ruptured at the Phillips 66-operated terminal near MM 194 at 9:15 a.m. 

Personnel from Coast Guard Sector Upper Mississippi River and the Environmental Protection Agency are on scene supervising response and recovery efforts.

Two oil spill response organizations are on scene doing shoreline assessments.
The pipeline has been secured.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
