PROPANE TANK IN FOOD VENDING TRUCK EXPLODES, DESTROYING THE TRUCK AND DAMAGING NUMEROUS HOUSES IN LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA

LAKEVILLE, MINN.

A food truck explosion left a large number of homes with damage late Friday night.

Witness Mike Albers, who took pictures at the scene, said that the food truck belongs to the 80s rock music-themed Motley Crews Heavy Metal Grill, which is based in Lakeville.

This seems to be confirmed on Motley Crews Facebook page, where this was posted early Saturday morning: “Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. By the grace of God everyone is ok.”  In addition, the photos above clearly show the remnants of the Heavy Metal Grill food truck.

According to Lakeville Deputy Chief John Kornmann, police and fire were called around 11 p.m. to the scene of a vehicle explosion in the 16500 block of Joplin Avenue.

Upon arrival, responders found a destroyed food vending truck and numerous houses damaged. It appeared that the truck parked in a driveway exploded, scattering debris up to 500 feet away. Several garage doors were blown in, windows broken, siding damaged and several trees lost limbs.

The blast was felt up to six miles away -- as far away as Farmington.

It is believed that the explosion was propane-related.

Two people on the scene received minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

Lakeville Police and Fire Department personnel along with the State Fire Marshall's Office are investigating the cause of the explosion. Most likely, the propane tank inside the truck exploded.
