The Marin County Sheriff's Office confirms one person died Wednesday in a kayaking accident north of Tomales Bay.

A man who was kayaking with his friend died in an accident off the Marin County coast Wednesday afternoon.

According to authorities, the kayakers slammed into rocks a short distance away from Dillon Beach.

The U.S. Coast Guard used a helicopter and a rescue boat to search for the kayakers.

Authorities said the body of one of the kayakers was found in the rough water. He was not wearing a life jacket.

According to Bay City News Service, the victim was a Sonoma County man who was about 50 years old. His name has not been released.

The second kayaker was able to swim to safety.
