SOLOMONS, MARYLAND

The Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (Company 3) responded to a work accident on the island Thursday, March 12 around 3 p.m.

A construction worker at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory on Williams Road was injured when he came in contact with high voltage wires.

According to the Company 3 web site, the responding crews “quickly devised a rescue plan to access the victim and make ready for evacuation via rope rescue systems. Making use of a crane on scene to assist as high directional the patient was loaded into a stokes basket, lowered to safety and an awaiting emergency medical services crew within 20 minutes of arrival.”

The injured worker was flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 7 to Washington Hospital Center. The worker’s name has not been released.

In additional to Company 3, crews from Calvert Advanced Life Support (CALS, Company 10) and Tower 29 from St. Mary’s County were dispatched to the scene.
