MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OHIO –

A driver smashed head-on into a Middleburg Heights police cruiser while going the wrong way on an exit ramp.

Early Saturday morning, a red 2015 BMW was attempting to enter I-71 northbound, but turned down the southbound exit ramp off of Bagley Road.

The BMW collided with the cruiser which was exiting the highway’s southbound lanes.

Both drivers were taken to Southwest General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The ramp was closed for about two hours as officers investigated.

Both drivers, as well as a passenger in the BMW, were all wearing seatbelts.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor and charges are pending for the driver of the BMW.

The OSHP Cleveland Metro Post is investigating the accident.
