AUSTIN (KXAN) — A two-alarm fire Tuesday at a condo complex closed part of Oltorf Street in South Austin.

Fire crews were called about 12:30 p.m. to 2303 East Side Drive, which prompted officials to close Oltorf between East Side Drive and the Interstate 35 service road.

The fire damaged one condo, and another unit suffered damage as crews battled the blaze. Investigators said the fire was caused by unattended cooking on the balcony. It caused about $25,000 in damages.

The resident inside the unit where the fire started was issued a citation for “illegal storage or use of a propane cooking appliance on a combustible balcony of a multi-family residential occupancy.”

Four people were displaced because of the fire. Lanes along Oltorf have since reopened.
