YONKERS, NEW YORK

A 6-day-old infant was among 14 people displaced by a fire in a multifamily home Wednesday, officials said.

Firefighters responded to a fire in the back of the house at 104 Glen Road around 3:30 p.m. and quickly extinguished the flames. One firefighter was injured, Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick said.

Red Cross volunteers provided emergency help for eight adults and six children, spokeswoman Carolyn Sherwin said, adding that one family, the owners of the house, consisted of 10 people. The building's tenant, a family of four that include the infant, will require longer-term assistance, she said.

"They can't go back in tomorrow because of the residual smoke and we have to ensure the safety of the baby," Sherwin said.
