ANTHONY, N.M. - Dona Ana County firefighters were
able to put out a house fire in Anthony Wednesday morning, but not before it
completely destroyed the structure.
Fire districts from Anthony, La Union, Santa Teresa,
Chamberino, Mesquite and Las Alturas were dispatched to the fire at 5:55 a.m.
Wednesday.
The fire happened in the 100 block of Las Palmeras Road,
just south of Berino.
The fire reportedly started near a water heater that was
located in a shed, which then spread to the home.
Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies were at the scene to
help with traffic flow.
Fire investigators said the home had several different
structures that were connected to each other, including a travel trailer that
also had a permanent structure attached to it.
The fire spread through the void areas of the various
rooflines of the home, which made it difficult to get the fire extinguished
quickly.
No injuries were reported.
According to the Doña Ana County Fire Marshal’s office,
the family living in the home at the time will be offered services through the
American Red Cross.
