TRUCK DRIVER TRAPPED UNDER GLASS LOAD HE WAS CARRYING, AFTER WENT OFF THE ROAD AND CRUSHED INTO A TREE IN THE OHIO TURNPIKE
FLORENCE TWP, OHIO– A man
was trapped under a heap of broken glass for almost an hour after his
semi truck went off the Ohio Turnpike and crashed into a tree Tuesday
morning.
At
about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Tony Frisoli, 54, of Alabama, was driving a
2014 Freightliner Cascadia westbound on the Turnpike, just west of
Lorain County, when he went off the right side of the road and hit a
tree, according to Trooper Richard Reeder of the Milan Post.
The
force of the crash caused the cab and the trailer to break apart. All
of the glass that Frisoli was carrying in the trailer flew forward,
breaking against the cab and trapping Frisoli under a mound of shattered
glass, Reeder said.
Troopers from the Milan Post and
firefighters from South Amherst Fire Department responded to the scene.
They were able to extricate the injured but conscious truck driver
almost an hour after the crash, according to a press release.
Frisoli suffered several cuts from the crash and was taken to Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk for his injuries.
Reeder
said it looked like the load Frisoli was carrying on the trailer was
not secured properly, causing the straps to break when he hit the tree.
Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
