GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
A man was burned Friday morning in a Gwinnett County
condominium fire.
Firefighters responded to the condo complex near the
intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and Spalding Drive in the Deerings
community around 1:30 a.m. when a man called 911 and said his mattress was on
fire.
When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming
from the end unit.
The caller was already outside, but he had a serious
burn.
Paramedics rushed the man to Grady Memorial Hospital as
firefighters made sure everyone was out of the adjoining units.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire
under control.
"Firefighters did a good job of getting the fire
put out, contained to the one unit. But not before it caused significant
damage," said Gwinnett County Fire Department Capt. Tommy Rutledge.
There's heavy damage to the unit and smoke damage to
three other units.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the
fire.
