ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Coast Guard rescued 10 people after a boat sank near Mandeville Island Sunday at approximately 9:15 p.m.
Coast Guard Sector San Francisco command center watchstanders received a call at 9:15 p.m., from Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team San Francisco members that a ski boat had sunk in the vicinity of a fireworks display.
The boat crew responded to the scene and retrieved all 10 people from the water with no reported injuries. The rescued people were transferred to a Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel and taken to Buckley Cove.
“The holidays are a great time for recreation on the water. It’s highly recommended that boaters utilize life jackets and always have an effective way to communicate with rescue organizations, preferably a VHF radio,” said Cmdr. Matthew Thompson, the chief of response at Sector San Francisco.
