A truck driver has died in a fiery crash on B.C.'s Highway 99 just south of the Massey Tunnel on Wednesday morning. 

Delta police say several witnesses attempted to free the trapped man from the truck, which was fully engulfed in flames. He was the lone occupant of the truck and his identity will not be released pending next of kin notification.

"We tried to get out there to do what we could to help him, but it was too late. There was loud bangs, tires were flying. It was time to step back," said witness Gary Edgar.

"We were yelling at him. We were pretty confident he was unconscious throughout all this, but there was no way to get him out."

The accident happened around 9 a.m. PT near the overpass for Highway 17A, also known as the Ladner Trunk overpass. Witnesses reported explosions after the southbound dump truck hit the highway median and burst into flames.

Two vehicles in the northbound lanes were also damaged after being hit. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The tunnel has been reopened to traffic in both directions, but southbound traffic detoured around the crash site via the Highway 17A or River Road exits. 

Northbound traffic can access the Massey Tunnel via Highway 17A.

A semitrailer driver was injured after his truck hit some power lines in suburban Bedford Park early Wednesday.

About 3:30 a.m., emergency crews were called to the the 6600 block of South Nashville Avenue in the southwest suburb, said Bedford Park Fire Department Capt. Kurt Raber.

A tarp covering the top of the truck's trailer was in a "raised position" and hit the power lines, causing the tarp to catch fire, Raber said. The truck tires also caught fire, but the truck did not.

The truck's driver, a man, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The man's age and condition was not immediately available.

The crash damaged power lines and left more than 100 people without power, said ComEd spokesman John Schoen.

Power had been fully restored by about 5:15 a.m., Schoen said.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) --

One person has died and two people were injured after an accident involving two Foster Farms trucks, a fuel tanker, and a pickup truck.

The crash happened around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Crews rescued a 39-year-old driver who was trapped under one of the Foster Farms truck's tires. That driver was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died.

The California Highway Patrol said one of the Foster Farms trucks had pulled over for unknown reasons. The driver was outside the truck when the tanker truck hit the back of the poultry truck -- and hit the driver who was dragged and pinned under the tire. A pickup truck and a second Foster Farms truck then collided with the tanker truck.

The driver of the tanker truck, Brandon Russell of Visalia, suffered major injuries and the driver of the pickup truck, Mario Moreno of Riverdale, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the second Foster Farms truck, Hoscar Rodriguez, did not have any injuries and was able to drive away in the truck.

One of the Foster Farms trucks was carrying live turkeys and the other was loaded with chickens.

It is unclear if fog in the area played a role in the crash. Northbound Highway 41 is expected to be closed until about 9:00 a.m.

MIDLAND, TEXAS - A construction worker is dead following an industrial accident in Midland.

The accident happened in the 2300 block of West Wall around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Midland Police tell News West 9, a construction worker was on a lift, fell and hit his head.

The worker was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Next of kin has been notified but the victim's name has not yet been released.

Midland Police are investigating.  OSHA will also investigate this death, as it involves a dead worker.
