THOMAS TOWNSHIP, MI — Emergency officials are responding to a crash on Graham, or M-52, south of Gratiot, Saginaw County 911 Authority reports.
Officials with Thomas Township Police Department, Thomas Township Fire Department and Mobile Medical Response were called to the injury crash just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3.

There were numerous crashes in Saginaw County throughout the day Saturday, as snow and sleet created slippery road conditions.
Just before 2:30 p.m., officials with the Saginaw County Sherriff's Department and Zilwaukee and Buena Vista Township fire departments were called to the northbound side of the Zilwaukee Bridge for a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer.
Saginaw County Sheriff's Department Lt. Randy Pfau said the tractor-trailer had been carrying fuel, which fire department officials were helping to clean up.
The Saginaw County Crash Team was called to investigate "due to the serious nature of the semi-truck driver's injuries," he said.
The Zilwaukee Bridge on northbound I-75 was to be closed until further notice, officials said.
Wintry weather could cause more travel woes Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4

Wet and/or Icy Roads Blamed For Almost 30 Accidents. Drivers Complain for Lack of Warning Signs.

Wet and/or Icy Roads Blamed For Almost 30 Accidents.  Drivers Complain for Lack of Warning Signs.

Wet roads caused problems all day Saturday for drivers in Lexington and surrounding areas.

Lexington Police say between 6 a.m. And 5 p.m. Saturday, they responded to about 30 accidents without injuries. They also were called to 3 accidents with injuries.

An accident on the exit ramp to New Circle Road from Versailles Road required major clean up after when a semi-truck rolled over. The crash happened around 10 a.m. Saturday and crews kept the ramp closed until about 3:30 p.m.

Some people say they believe crashes like this on the exit ramps in Lexington could be avoided if there were more warning signs for drivers.

"This is just inexcusable. We're wasting a lot of city resources, a lot of other peoples resources, when a lot of this can be stopped or a lot of the repeated incidents can be reduced," said driver Gerard Gerhard.

Another Saturday morning crash on I-75 in Lexington around 10 a.m. caused a driver to flip upside down in this car. He told us he started to lose control as he was coming off the interstate.

"Well, I was coming down the ramp and I was turning and I just kept turning and didn't straighten out. I think I hydroplaned," said driver Sam Mitchell.

Mitchell says he was able to crawl out of the car before paramedics came to help.

Also on I-75 Saturday in Scott County, a truck landed on its roof after popping a tire and hitting this embankment. A man, woman, and dog were inside the truck when it happened around mile marker 140 in the northbound lanes. Police say both the driver and passenger are expected to be OK.

Police encourage drivers to take extra caution when the roads are wet.

Fire truck overturns on icy road in Franklin Co., Missouri

Fire truck overturns on icy road in Franklin Co., Missouri

FRANKLIN CO. Mo. -- Two St. Clair firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries Friday morning when their fire truck overturned after sliding off an icy road and into a ditch around 7:45 in Union, Missouri. The accident occurred at Old Cove Road near Moselle Road.
The 60,000 pound truck was lying on its roof, before emergency crews worked to pull it out of the ditch and turned it right side up.
Crews with the St. Clair Fire Department say the truck was en route to an auto accident when they reached a blind curve, only to find another vehicle had already slid off the road. In their effort to avoid hitting that car, they braked and skidded off the road, rolling once.
Both firefighters were able to get out of the truck on their own. They were taken to the hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.
The City of St. Clair says the fire truck is insured. No word yet if it has been totaled.

2 pedestrians die, as icy roads lead to accidents throughout Western Pennsylvania

2 pedestrians die, as icy roads lead to accidents throughout Western Pennsylvania

An early morning ice storm Saturday slickened roads throughout Western Pennsylvania, caused dozens of accidents and contributed to the deaths of two pedestrians, emergency officials said.

Freezing drizzle coated roads with ice beginning around 5:30 a.m., dispatchers reported. Conditions began to improve around 9:30 a.m. as the temperature began to rise in southern counties. A winter weather advisory remained in effect for northern counties.

An Apollo man was run over by his van in front of his First Street second-hand store at about 7:30 a.m.

Gary Beigay, 68, of First Street, had just parked, and his van started to slide on the icy street and he went behind the van to stop it, Armstrong County Chief Deputy Coroner Robert Bellas said.

Beigay was standing behind his van when it started to move backward, and witnesses saw it roll over him, Apollo police Officer Ron Baustert said.

Bellas said Beigay died from injuries to the chest. The death has been ruled an accident.

Baustert said Beigay has a First Street address but usually stayed with relatives in North Apollo.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed a pedestrian died at Lakewood and Rocklege drives in Aleppo Saturday morning.

Kimberly Moran, 49, of Aleppo died after being struck by a car sliding on the ice, according to Ohio Township police Chief Norbert Micklos. Moran had been walking two dogs at time time of the accident. The car pushed Moran against a fiberglass utility box, Micklos said.

WPXI also reported a salt truck slid into a home in Shaler.

Dispatchers said drivers were stuck on many roads because of the ice.

City road crews began to treating roads and bridges at 4 a.m. in preparation for the freezing rain, according to a statement from Katie O'Malley, city spokeswoman. There was no opportunity to pre-treat roads. Had dry roads been pre-treated, the material would have been washed away by the rain, prior to freezing temperatures.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said freezing rain was expected to last in the area until about 10 a.m. The advisory stretched west from Zanesville, Ohio, south to Morgantown, W.Va., east to Westmoreland County and north to the Interstate 80 corridor.

The National Weather Service in State College also issued a winter weather advisory for Somerset, Cambria and Clearfield counties.

PennDOT reduced the speed limit on major highways including Interstates 79, 376, 279 and 579 to 45 mph. It is urging motorists to stay off the roads.

Route 28 between Tarentum and RIDC Park reopened after a short closure, but state police said motorists should proceed with caution because of possible refreezing. Firefighters reported at least one car slid into a house along Crescent Boulevard Extension in Crescent.

Area police are urging people to stay off the roads.
