WOMAN IN WHEELCHAIR DIES WHEN SHE IS HIT BY TRUCK WHILE IN THE SIDEWALK, DRAGGED INTO THE STREET AND RUN OVER IN AURORA, COLORADO

As we reported in other
blogs, the death toll of pedestrians and cyclists have been increasing in the
recent years, We made the trucks and
cars safer, but now these “fortresses” are true lethal weapons in the hands of
a reckless driver. Even people in
wheelchair are not spared from the deadly force of these vehicles.
A delivery truck in
Aurora hit a woman on a wheelchair, which was on a sidewalk, dragging the
victim into the street, police said.
The incident happened
about 1:45 p.m. in the 900 block of South Peoria Street, according to an Aurora
Police Department media release.
Witnesses at the scene
told police the driver of the meat delivery truck was leaving a parking lot and
came to a stop before making a right hand turn to head north on Peoria Street.
A 50-year-old woman was
in a motorized wheelchair, on the sidewalk near the turning truck.
"The truck struck
the wheelchair, dragging it and victim out into the street, running over the
victim," police said.
The woman was taken to a
local hospital where she died a short time later.
An investigation into the
incident is ongoing.
Police did not release
the name of the victim or the driver.
