Saturday, January 24, 2015
PELHAM, NH - One person is dead after a house fire on
Blackstone Circle late Friday night. Three people were helped or removed
from the single-family home, N.H. State Police said, but a person removed
through a second-floor window died.
Firefighters were called to the two-story home just past
10 p.m. They were met with heavy smoke and fire.
One person jumped from a second-floor window, a second
was removed from a kitchen at the back of the first floor and the third person,
found on the second floor, was brought out but did not survive, according to
state and local investigators.
The victim has not been identified and will not be until
an autopsy is performed later this weekend.
The fire may have started in a first-floor living room,
investigators said, but the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
New Hampshire State Fire Marshal J.William Degnan and
Pelham fire Chief Jim Midgley remind residents to keep heaters clear of
combustible material and make sure homes have working smoke detectors.
They also urge people to keep exits and the paths to them clear.
