TRUCK OVERTURNS WHILE MAKING A TURN AT AN UNSAFE SPEED IN CAMPTOWN, PA. ROUTE 706 WAS SHUT DOWN.
January 21, 2015
CAMPTOWN, PA - Route 706 was shut down Tuesday in Camptown
after a large truck crashed in the center of town.
According to state police, the truck was going west - toward
Wyalusing - on Route 706 about 6:30 a.m. and, because of speed, could not make
the curve at the intersection with Route 409. The truck hit the curb between
the intersection and the Camptown bridge, tipped onto its passenger side and
stopped. The police officer reported no injuries.
The accident damaged a utility pole and workers were on
scene later that morning.
The large truck was a type commonly called a "sand
can." Police reported nothing spilled from it. The name on the door read
"Jemmer Distributing," and the truck had a Utah license plate.
Herrickville and Wyalusing fire departments, Penelec,
Frontier, PennDOT, Furman and Jones towing, and state police were on the scene.
While Route 706 was shut down, traffic was detoured onto
Route 409, or Water and Ball Park streets. According to unofficial sources, the
road was still closed as of late Tuesday afternoon.
