An 88-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a semi-trailer that had gone out of control on a southeast Kansas roadway, authorities said.
The crash occurred at 11 a.m. Tuesday on 24000 Road, about 2 miles west of Parsons in Labette County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of a 2014 Freightliner semi-trailer that was eastbound on 24000 Road lost control of his rig, causing it to jack-knife and go left of center.
The patrol said the semi then struck a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck head-on.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, identified as John Troy, was from Parsons. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Troy was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the semi, Brady Renix, 24, of Conway, Ark., was reported to be injured. Renix was taken to Labette County Health. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
