Seven people escaped a house fire in Appleton, Wisconsin, thanks to an alert passerby.
Just before 6 p.m. Sunday, crews were called to a fire on Pheasant Court.

Firefighters encountered flames coming from the roof. They quickly contained the fire, however there was extensive water damage to the home.

Investigators say the fire started near the chimney and spread to the attic.

Two adults and five children escaped the fire without injury. The Appleton Fire Department says a passerby saw the fire and alerted the family.

Crews from Appleton and Neenah-Menasha responded to the scene. Firefighters credit their mutual aid agreement for preventing a bigger fire.
