BEULAH, N.D. (AP) -
North Dakota Transportation Department officials say state Highway 49 near Beulah is expected to be closed until the evening because of a sulfuric acid spill.
Highway Patrol Lieutenant Tom Iverson said Friday morning that a semitrailer crashed in the ditch about 4 miles south of Beulah, spilling the acid.
The patrol says 29-year-old driver Eric Schmidt, of Bismarck, was able to get out of the semi by himself after losing control of the vehicle on a curve.
He was taken to a Hazen hospital to be checked out. No other vehicles were involved.
Hazardous material crews have been working to clean up the spill.
