Container Ship Cap Blanche Generator Room Fire Due to Oil Spill while in Vancouver, Canada

The container ship Cap Blanche caught fire while docked at Fraser Surrey Docks, Vancouver.

The incident occurred on Sunday (July 12) shortly after the 2,741-TEU vessel completed its unloading. It started in the generator room and was reportedly extinguished in a short time.

According to docks' spokesperson, the fire was caused by a small fuel spill the generator room.

No one was injured in the incident and there were no reports of spills. According to preliminary checks, the boxship sustained only minimal damage.

A team from Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has been deployed for further investigation.


Cap Blanche (IMO number 9311775 and MMSI 305347000) was built in 2006. The Antigua and Barbuda-registered container ship is operated by Harmstorf Thomas Meier-Hedde, Germany.
