The Karnes County Sheriff's Office was responding to a report of an explosion Monday afternoon.

The blast happened just before 4 p.m. Monday at Premiere Tank Services off FM Highway 99, about three miles west of Karnes City.

Two men were welding an 18-wheeler tank at an oil field-related business, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson said. The tank had not been cleaned out properly when sparks caused an explosion.

One man was transported by AirLIFE and the other via AirCare to San Antonio Military Medical Center. A 37-year-old man has second- and third-degree burns from the waist up, while a 44-year-old man has second- and third-degree burns on his entire body, the DPS spokesperson said.
